With your safety as our top priority, we conduct AMSA surveys at a time that’s convenient for you. Our in-depth knowledge of the USL and NSCV ensures your survey is completed in compliance with current standards. Every five years, a renewal survey is required and includes a thorough inspection both in and out of the water.

After obtaining your survey codes from AMSA, get in touch with us to begin the survey process. This typically involves a few visits to your vessel. Once the survey is finished, we’ll submit your application to AMSA and, if needed, assist you in obtaining a Temporary Operations Certificate.

Marine Warranty Surveys

Marine Warranty Surveys (MWS) are comprehensive inspections and assessments conducted by Midwest Marine Surveyors to evaluate the risks associated with marine-related operations and projects. These surveys are often required by insurance underwriters, project owners, or marine warranty providers to ensure that a project or marine operation complies with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols. The goal is to minimize the risk of incidents, damages, and losses.

Midwest Marine Surveyors have been involved in major MWS around Australia including the largest tow from the port of Melbourne.

An "on-off hire bunker survey" typically refers to a survey conducted on a vessel to assess the quantity of fuel (bunker) on board at the time of on-hire or off-hire. This type of survey is crucial in the shipping industry to determine the amount of fuel that is present on the vessel when it is either chartered ("on-hire") or returned after a charter period ("off-hire"). The purpose of this survey is to establish the baseline for fuel quantity and avoid disputes between the charterer and the owner.

Pre-Purchase / Condition Surveys

Pre purchase surveys are an essential aspect of the purchase of any vessel, no matter how big or small, particularly in the second hand market, the purpose of this survey is to provide the buyer with the necessary tools to make informed and balanced decisions regarding the vessel and to evaluate its general condition and overall operation prior to purchase.

Midwest Marine Surveyors can provide pre-purchase / condition surveys of all vessels from small private vessels, domestic commercial vessels and the very largest sea going ships including offshore support vessels, VLCC, gas carriers and  bulk carriers.

The pre-purchase survey report is specifically tailored to provide a clear and realistic assessment of the vessel. It includes a detailed breakdown of recommendations made by the marine surveyor, which are clearly graded as being essential, recommended or advisory. This can be a useful  tool to negotiate specific repairs or price adjustments with the vendor as well as  serving as a maintenance and repair checklist post purchase.

A safety management system (also referred to as an SMS) is a systematic approach to managing safety on your vessel.

By following established policies, practices and procedures you ensure the safety of your vessel the people on board and the environment in which you operate.

All commercial vessels must have a documented Safety Management System (SMS). This system will demonstrate and document how your vessel meets the mandatory general safety duties.

Your vessel’s SMS should be based on a risk assessment of your operations. It should describe how safety, maintenance and operation is managed on your vessel.

If you require a SMS or a review of your operations, contact us.
